If Round Top holidays feel plucked from a Hallmark movie, there’s a reason. The town, especially at Christmas, is full of Mayberry moments typical of a neighborly rural community.
The first Saturday in December – this year, Dec. 5 – is the annual lighted Christmas parade. Make your lodging reservations and dining plans so you can enjoy a full weekend of Round Top’s abundant holiday charm (hotel and restaurants lists can be found on visitroundtop.com).
Things to do:
Christkindlmarkt: Friday, Dec. 4 at 5 p.m. is the kickoff for a European-inspired holiday market at The Compound. This inaugural event that runs through Sunday features gifts, holiday décor and music, and seasonal food and drink (and benefits the Round Top/Carmine School). See roundtopcompound.com.
Christmas Parade: An all-day schedule of events on Dec. 5 culminates with the lighted parade, 6:15 to 7:30 p.m. But there’s plenty to do beginning in the morning with holiday shopping, a historical homes tour, and Christmas on the Square beginning at 3 p.m. featuring food, drinks and games, entertainment and an appearance by Santa Claus in the town gazebo. There's a lot ho-ho-ho happening all day; for an up-to-date list and event information, see exploreroundtop.com.
Round Top Festival Institute: Festival Hill will put you in the holiday mood with “Sounds of the Season,” a concert featuring Blinn College Wind Symphony and Choirs, Dec. 5, from 3 to 5 p.m. For ticketing information see festivalhill.org.
